The United States Treasury Department sanctions 32 individuals, entities, and vessels in an effort to disrupt Houthi operations.
The United States has imposed a new round of sanctions targeting Yemen’s Houthis on Thursday.
According to the US Treasury Department, these sanctions represent Washington's largest such action against the Iran-aligned group to date.
The move aims to disrupt the Houthis' fundraising, smuggling, and attack operations by targeting several China-based companies that allegedly help transport military-grade components and other entities involved in arranging shipments of dual-use goods to the Houthis.
Additionally, petroleum smugglers and Houthi-linked shipping companies are also included among those targeted by the sanctions. The Houthi movement has been responsible for disrupting commerce since late 2023, carrying out hundreds of drone and missile attacks on vessels in the Red Sea.
The group claims these operations target ships linked to Israel as a show of solidarity with Palestinians amid ongoing conflict in Gaza.
In May, US President
Donald Trump announced an unexpected ceasefire agreement with the Houthis.
