An Israeli airstrike targeting Hamas leaders in Qatar this week has not altered the Palestinian group's demands for ending the war in Gaza, according to a senior Hamas official.

The attack took place while Hamas was discussing a new ceasefire proposal from Qatari Prime Minister, emphasizing the role of Qatar as a mediator in negotiations aimed at securing a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict.

Fawzi Barhoum, a Hamas spokesperson, stated that the strike occurred during discussions regarding their response to the ceasefire proposal.

Despite this escalation, Hamas maintains its key demands: a full ceasefire, Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, prisoner exchanges, humanitarian aid, and reconstruction efforts for the enclave.

These conditions remain central to their pursuit of peace.

The attack on Doha has elicited strong condemnation from regional powers such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the European Union, highlighting its potential to disrupt US-backed truce-brokerage efforts aimed at ending the nearly two-year-old conflict.

The strike killed five Hamas members, including the son of Khalil Al-Hayya, a top negotiator and chief of Hamas's Gaza branch.

In contrast, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is advocating for an all-or-nothing deal that would involve the simultaneous release of all hostages and Hamas surrendering.

This stark difference in approach poses significant challenges to achieving a consensus on ceasefire terms.
