Dubai's Viral Chocolate Bar and Middle East Tensions: A Cross-Continental Headlines Mix

Viral 'Dubai chocolate bar' by Nouel Catis Omamalin and Sarah Hamouda garners 80 million TikTok views.
Filipino chef Nouel Catis Omamalin and British Egyptian entrepreneur Sarah Hamouda have taken Dubai by storm with their viral "Dubai chocolate bar," filled with knafeh and pistachio spread. Their creation from Fix Dessert Chocolatier gained massive fame on TikTok, with over 80 million views thanks to influencer Maria Vehera. Despite Omamalin no longer being a partner, his nostalgic flavors have been key to its success.

In the political arena, Robert Jenrick, a frontrunner in the Conservative Party leadership race, has made headlines with his proposal to display the Star of David at all UK entry points and move the British Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. His comments at a Conservative Friends of Israel event also included advocating for Israeli access via e-gates and boldly wearing a "Hamas are Terrorists" hoody.

Meanwhile, Iran has announced it will not deploy military forces to Lebanon or Gaza, trusting the local fighters' capability to defend against Israeli actions. This comes after Israeli airstrikes killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and top Iranian commander Abbas Nilforoushan. Iran's leaders have vowed retaliation.

Following the death of Nasrallah, Hezbollah is preparing to counter a potential Israeli ground invasion of Lebanon. Deputy leader Naim Qassem confirmed their readiness amidst ongoing attacks that have killed around 1,000 Lebanese and displaced a million people. This conflict has drawn international calls for a ceasefire and warnings from Iran.

The turmoil continues as the Yemeni government condemned recent Israeli airstrikes on the Houthi-held city of Hodeidah. These strikes, described as violations of Yemen’s sovereignty, have worsened the humanitarian crisis, resulting in four deaths and 40 injuries. This coincides with Houthi ballistic missile attacks on Israel, marking the second such instance following an earlier drone attack in July.

Reflecting the escalating tensions, Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has announced the possibility of deploying ground troops in Lebanon against Hezbollah. This conflict, ignited by the assassination of Nasrallah and marked by continuous cross-border exchanges, has already claimed at least 558 lives. Gallant emphasizes securing the northern border, while Hezbollah’s Naim Qassem warns of a prolonged battle ahead.
