Escalation of Hostilities: India Launches Operation Sindhur Against Targets in Pakistani Kashmir

Escalation of Hostilities: India Launches Operation Sindhur Against Targets in Pakistani Kashmir

Recent missile strikes by India against alleged terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan have heightened tensions in the region.
A series of explosions were reported near Muzaffarabad in Pakistani-administered Kashmir on May 6, 2025, amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

Local sources indicated that at least 18 blasts were heard, with Indian forces allegedly targeting multiple areas, including Bahawalpur, Muzaffarabad, and Rawalpindi, using ballistic missiles.

India has formally announced the initiation of 'Operation Sindhur,' claiming the operation was directed against nine sites identified as part of what it termed terrorist infrastructure.

The Indian Army characterized the strikes as necessary and framed them as a retaliatory measure, publicizing a statement that declared, 'Justice is served.'

In response, Pakistan's military confirmed that missile attacks had taken place within its territory, affirming its intent to retaliate against the strikes.

Reports surfaced of heavy shelling and powerful explosions affecting two border areas within Indian-controlled Kashmir, aligning with the recent developments.

Sources in the region noted that clashes have intensified along the Line of Control (LoC), leading to a lockdown in Muzaffarabad.

Emergency services have been mobilized, with numerous vehicles observed responding to the impact zones.

Pakistani media outlets have alleged that Indian missiles targeted several sites in Azad Kashmir, although there have been no confirmed reports regarding military activity in Bahawalpur.

This area has previously been associated with militant organizations, suggesting a strategic consideration for such military action.

This spike in hostilities comes on the heels of Pakistan's earlier assertions on April 29 regarding intelligence of a possible Indian offensive, which had not materialized until the recent attacks.
