HK reports 70 Covid cases, 16 infections untraceable

The Centre for Health Protection said as of 12am today, it has recorded 70 additional confirmed coronavirus cases – seven imported and 63 local – bringing the tally to 9,868 cases.
Among the 63 patients were 38 men and 32 women, aged between two months to 83 years.

Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the Centre for Health Protection's Communicable Disease Branch, said of the fresh local cases today, 47 were linked to previous local infections and 16 with untraceable sources.

Chuang said among the local cases today, 31 of them live in the Yau Tsim Mong District, which 14 of them live inside the area designated for mandatory testing.

Five more buildings in Hong Kong have also been included in the compulsory testing notice.

The buildings include Tak Yam House of On Yam Estate in Kwai Chung, Block 2 of Charming Garden in Mong Kok and Block 5 of Laguna City in Lam Tin.

The other two buildings are on 121 Woosung Street and 7-10 Ferry Street from the Yau Ma Tei designated area.

An asymptomatic patient found to have contracted the coronavirus today is a resident of a care home for the elderly in Jordan, said Chuang.

“The 80-year-old elderly is a resident of Sheung On Elderly Home on Battery Street in Jordan, 21 residents and 6 staff of the care home have been listed as close contact needing quarantine,” Chuang added.

The imported cases today include returnees from Nepal, Dubai, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The three Dubai returnees were said to have been to the UK before staying in Dubai for a month. The Centre for Health Protection will look into their case to see if they were infected in the UK.
