Houthis Claim Attacks on Israel and U.S. Warships in the Red Sea

Houthis Claim Attacks on Israel and U.S. Warships in the Red Sea

The Houthi group announces military operations against Israel and American naval forces amid escalating regional tensions.
The Houthi movement in Yemen announced on Monday, April 7, 2025, that it has conducted military operations targeting a military site in Israel as well as two U.S. destroyers in the Red Sea.

This announcement follows Israeli military claims of intercepting a drone launched from the east that approached Israeli territory.

In a statement made by Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree, the group reported that it executed a drone strike on a military target in the occupied Jaffa area, near Tel Aviv.

Saree further noted that the Houthis targeted the U.S. warships using a combination of cruise missiles and drones.

The Houthi spokesperson indicated that these attacks are part of a larger military campaign that they assert will persist until Israel ceases its actions in Gaza and the United States halts what they describe as aggression against Yemen.

Earlier on the same day, the Israeli military confirmed the interception of a drone that approached its territory from the east, reportedly launched from areas controlled by the Houthis.

Since mid-March 2025, areas under Houthi control in Yemen have reportedly faced continuous air strikes attributed to the United States, following an American military campaign aimed at compelling the group to stop targeting ships they allege are connected to Israel.

The Houthis have been conducting attacks on U.S. naval vessels and Israeli territory, citing solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

Their military actions against shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, as well as strikes on Israeli targets, intensified after the outbreak of hostilities in Gaza in October 2023. Though these attacks were suspended with the implementation of a ceasefire in January 2024, they resumed following renewed Israeli military operations in Gaza beginning in March 2025.

The situation escalated after Israel resumed its blockade on Gaza and intensified its military operations, prompting reiterated threats from the Houthis to continue their attacks in response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
