Israel Launches Airstrikes on Houthi-Controlled Hodeida Port in Yemen

Israeli military targets port allegedly used for weapon transfers amid ongoing conflict escalations.
Israeli forces conducted airstrikes on Yemen’s Houthi-controlled port of Hodeida on June 10, 2025. This action marks a continuation of Israel’s military operations against the Iran-backed Houthi militia, a group that has been involved in missile and drone strikes against Israel following the escalation of conflict in the Gaza Strip since October 2023.

The Israeli military confirmed that naval forces targeted what they described as 'terror targets' within Hodeida, located on Yemen's Red Sea coast.

An official statement claimed the port was being utilized for military purposes, specifically to transfer weapons to the Houthis.

Since the outbreak of the Gaza war, Israeli forces have launched multiple attacks against Houthi-controlled areas, including several strikes on strategic locations such as ports and the main airport in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.

The Houthi group, which positions itself in solidarity with the Palestinian cause, had temporarily halted its missile activities during a two-month ceasefire in Gaza that concluded in March but resumed operations as Israel escalated its military response.

Following the airstrikes on Hodeida, the Israeli military reported the detection of a missile launched from Yemen towards Israeli territory.

Air raid sirens were activated in several locations in Israel, raising security concerns.

AFP reporters in Jerusalem reported hearing loud blasts consistent with prior missile interceptions.

Local media outlets, including the Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV, reported that the Israeli strikes had hit the docks of the Hodeida port.

In response to the escalating threat from the Houthis, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a warning on social media, declaring that the Houthi militia would face severe consequences if attacks toward Israel continued, including potential naval and aerial blockades.

Military spokesperson Avichay Adraee advised civilians to evacuate three key Houthi-controlled ports, emphasizing their security amid ongoing military actions.

Throughout the conflict, Israeli air defenses have successfully intercepted a majority of projectiles launched by the Houthis, although some have reached Israeli territory, including a missile that struck near Ben Gurion Airport in early May, damaging infrastructure and injuring several individuals.

Israeli airstrikes have previously targeted Sanaa airport, critically damaging its facilities and eliminating the last operational aircraft.

In addition, statements from the Israeli military have indicated an intent to target the leadership of the Houthi group as part of its broader counteroffensive strategy.
