Israeli Airstrikes and Fire Result in 35 Fatalities in Gaza

Local health authorities report escalating violence amid ongoing humanitarian crises in the region.
GAZA: Recent Israeli fire and airstrikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 35 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip, as confirmed by local health authorities.

The majority of casualties occurred near an aid distribution site operated by the US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), where at least 15 individuals were killed while attempting to access aid near the Netzarim corridor.

Additional fatalities were reported in separate attacks across various locations within the enclave.

The Gaza Health Ministry released a statement indicating that since the GHF commenced operations in late May, at least 274 people have been killed and over 2,000 injured near aid distribution sites.

The GHF's aid distribution methodology has been characterized by the United Nations as neither impartial nor neutral.

In light of the recent violence, health officials at Shifa Hospital reported that Israeli fire took the lives of at least 12 Palestinians waiting for aid trucks along the coastal road in northern Gaza, contributing to the overall death toll of 35 on that day.

In response to the escalating conflict, the Israeli military has instructed residents of Khan Younis, Abassan, and Bani Suhaila in the southern Gaza Strip to evacuate their homes and move west toward a designated humanitarian zone.

The military stated that it would take action against what it refers to as 'terror organizations' operating in the area.

The ongoing conflict began 20 months ago following a militant raid into Israel that resulted in the deaths of 1,200 individuals and the taking of 251 hostages on October 7, 2023, which has been recorded as Israel's single deadliest day.

According to health authorities in Gaza, nearly 55,000 Palestinians have been killed since the onset of the conflict, with a significant portion identified as civilians.

The situation in the densely populated Gaza Strip, which houses over 2 million residents, is dire; most of the population is reported to be displaced, and malnutrition rates are high.

Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar aimed at reinstating a ceasefire, both Israel and Hamas continue to hold firm to their respective demands, with each side attributing responsibility for the continued violence to the other.
