Israel intensifies military actions against Iran amid claims of nuclear ambitions.
On June 16, 2025, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Iran is driving towards a scenario of perpetual conflict and is on the brink of a nuclear war.
In an interview with ABC, he highlighted the necessity for the United States to support Israel in efforts to dismantle Iran's nuclear program.
Netanyahu suggested that military operations could lead to the overthrow of the Iranian regime, while refraining from commenting on the potential assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, stating, 'We will do whatever it takes.'
Netanyahu asserted that Israel is on a path to victory, claiming that 'Iranians are attempting to create nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles, and we are working to prevent that.' He emphasized that Israel's objective is to eliminate the Iranian nuclear program and mentioned a feeling of existential urgency regarding the missile threat.
In his statements, Netanyahu alleged that Israel has succeeded in destroying half of Iran's drones and has targeted key radar installations, including an attack on the Iranian radio and television building.
He claimed that Israel is 'changing the landscape of the Middle East' through its military actions against Iran, which he suggested could incite fundamental changes within Iran itself.
Netanyahu stated, 'We have eliminated Iranian security leadership, including three Chiefs of Staff, their air force commander, and two intelligence leaders.
We are working to eliminate them one by one.' He acknowledged his communications with U.S. President
Donald Trump and appreciated the assistance provided to Israel, indicating that 'the operation in Iran will achieve the larger objective, but I will not overlook the hostages in Gaza.'
On June 15, during an interview with Fox News, Netanyahu described the Israeli offensive on Iran, stating that it was initiated due to an imminent threat.
He mentioned that intelligence shared with Washington indicated Iran was secretly working to convert uranium for nuclear weaponry and that they planned to supply it to groups such as the Houthis.
The Prime Minister claimed that current operations against Iran have significantly hindered its nuclear program, citing the destruction of the main nuclear facility in Natanz and a reactor in Isfahan, necessary for developing nuclear weapons.
On the night of June 15, Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran, hitting nuclear facilities and missile bases, resulting in 224 fatalities and 1,277 injuries.
In response, Iran commenced retaliatory strikes using ballistic missiles and drones, reportedly executing 11 waves of attacks, leading to significant material damage and 24 casualties, along with 592 injuries, according to Israeli reports.
