Kingdom Residents Spend Over 10 Billion Riyals in a Week Through 171 Million Point-of-Sale Transactions

Residents of the Kingdom have spent more than 10 billion riyals in just one week, from April 14 to April 20, 2024, across 171,037,000 point-of-sale transactions.
This spending, amounting to a total of 10,138,768,000 riyals, shows a slight decrease from the previous week's 11,351,346,000 riyals, according to the weekly report released by the Saudi Central Bank.

The report detailed expenditures in various sectors, highlighting that residents allocated 489,441,000 riyals to clothing and footwear through 3,675,000 transactions, and 280,541,000 riyals to construction and building materials via 1,267,000 transactions. Education saw a total spend of 147,090,000 riyals from 110,000 transactions.

Furthermore, electronics and electrical devices transactions reached 970,000, totaling 184,271,000 riyals in spending. Gas stations recorded 13,760,000 transactions, with expenditure reaching 761,536,000 riyals. The health sector also saw significant activity with 7,408,000 transactions totaling 651,763,000 riyals, and furniture purchases totaled 200,954,000 riyals across 848,000 transactions.

Hotel transactions amounted to 598,000, reaching a value of 237,556,000 riyals. Utilities saw 907,000 transactions worth 63,796,000 riyals, while jewelry purchases were made through 158,000 transactions totaling 196,125,000 riyals. Diverse goods and services amounted to a significant 1,227,447,000 riyals across 19,884,000 transactions.

Entertainment and culture-related purchases were made through 2,026,000 transactions, totaling 210,164,000 riyals. The food and beverage sector, including restaurants and cafes, saw substantial spending with 50,914,000 transactions totaling 1,613,514,000 riyals, and supermarkets and other food outlets recorded 40,322,000 transactions with a total spend of 1,622,188,000 riyals. Telecommunication services and transportation also witnessed substantial transactions amounting to 80,293,000 and 569,802,000 riyals respectively.

Across the Kingdom's cities, point-of-sale transactions were notably high in Riyadh, with 52,993,000 transactions amounting to 3,427,201,000 riyals. Mecca and Medina followed with 6,711,000 and 7,059,000 transactions totaling 372,736,000 and 394,692,000 riyals respectively. Other cities such as Tabuk, Hail, Abha, Buraidah, Khobar, Dammam, and Jeddah also reported significant transaction volumes, contributing to the week's grand total of over 10 billion riyals spent.

This comprehensive report from the Saudi Central Bank underscores the dynamic economic activity across the Kingdom, reflecting the diverse spending habits of its residents on a broad range of goods and services.
