The Egyptian Football Association announced on Tuesday that Mohamed El-Shenawy, the goalkeeper for Egypt's national team (the Pharaohs), will miss the remainder of the team’s campaign in the ongoing African Cup of Nations tournament in Côte d'Ivoire.
The Egyptian FA stated on its
Facebook page that medical scans confirmed El-Shenawy has suffered a shoulder dislocation, which will sideline him for the remaining matches of Egypt in the continental championship.
The association also added, "Coordination has been made between the medical staff of the Egyptian national team and their counterparts at Al Ahly Club regarding all the procedures concerning the player’s treatment plan."
It is noted that El-Shenawy was injured during Egypt’s 2-2 draw with Cape Verde on Monday in the third (final) round of Group E in the group stage of the African Cup of Nations 2023.
Egypt advanced to the Round of 16 in the tournament after finishing second in their group with 3 points. The Pharaohs are set to play their next match on Sunday against the runners-up from Group F, which includes the teams of Morocco, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, and Zambia.
