Casos de COVID-19 en Panamá siguen en aumento

Panama adds 727 new cases and exceeds 55,000 total COVID-19 infections

Panama added 727 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the number of infections to 55,153, according to the Ministry of Health.

In addition, 32 new deaths were reported, increasing to 1,159 the number of deaths from this virus in the country, representing a case fatality rate of 2.1%.

There are a total of 30,075 clinically recovered patients.

According to the epidemiological report, 22,599 of the active patients are in home isolation (698 are confined in hotels), while another 1,320 are hospitalized (1,156 in the ward and 164 in intensive care).

According to the age group, patients with ages between 20 to 59 years continue to be the most affected in terms of infection, however, most deaths correspond to those over 60 years of age.

Epidemic behavior

As detailed by Dr. Israel Cedeño, Panama has a virus reproduction rate of 1.23. The upward curve is maintained in hospitalized patients and in intensive care, he said.

He indicated that the mortality per 100,000 inhabitants is 24.9, and the mortality rate remains at a global rate of 2%.

The RT by number of deaths is 1.42.

Areas with the highest number of infections

The regions with the highest incidence of cases are Panama and Colón, with indices greater than 200 per number of inhabitants, while Coclé and Los Santos are the provinces with the fewest cases of coronavirus.

As for the townships, 361 are with active cases of the more than 600 that the country has. Of those 361, a total of 144 report more than 10 cases daily.

According to Cedeño, Panama has the third lowest case fatality rate.

It would seem the testing regiment still has issues.

I would hope that these are not the test kits they are using.
