The Rt or effective reproductive rate of COVID-19 in Panama in the last epidemiological week until September 19 increased to 0.96, reported Dr. Israel Cedeño, director of the Metropolitan Health Region.
Last week the Rt was at 0.90.
Cedeño said that a downward trend continues in terms of the daily report of confirmed cases of
COVID-19 , and the number of hospitalized both in the ward and in intensive care marks a downward trend with 668 and 133 respectively for the week September 19.
Deaths marked a drop until the week of September 14, then a slight rise, however it continues to decline,
Cedeño explained.
Panama and Darien are the provinces most affected by the pandemic with more than 3,000 cases.
In the region, Panama is one of the countries with the lowest case fatality rate with 2.1%, only surpassed by Paraguay with 1.9%.
