Saudi Ministry of Health Collaborates with Emerging Platform "Ethnain" to Care for Diabetes Patients

The partnership marks the beginning of a transformative healthcare journey for over 10,000 patients.
In a pioneering move aimed at redefining the diabetes care landscape in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Health has entered into a strategic partnership with "Ethnain," a leading startup in the field of online healthcare training. This collaboration serves as a testament to the innovative spirit driving healthcare solutions in the Kingdom and aligns with the ambitious goals of "Saudi Vision 2030."

This partnership signifies the start of a transformative healthcare journey for more than 10,000 patients across the Ministry’s diabetes care centers, integrating Ethnain’s customized training services into their treatment plans. This innovative approach to insulin-based diabetes management focuses on personalized education and training.

Speaking to "Al-Sharq Al-Awsat" from Riyadh, Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Sheikh, founder of the Ethnain platform, stated that the primary goal of the platform is to teach individuals how to manage any new medical challenges, such as insulin injections, which require education, caution, and understanding of their impact on the patient's health. He further explained that the purpose of the memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Health is to make the platform a part of the patient's journey and a part of their referral by doctors working in specialized centers to "Ethnain" for support and training within their own safe environment.

This initiative will provide patients and healthcare providers in the Ministry's diabetes care centers with direct access to the support offered by the Ethnain platform, facilitating a seamless referral process. This collaboration is expected to significantly improve patient outcomes, reduce pressure on medical facilities, and enable patients to effectively manage their health remotely.

Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Sheikh clarified in his remarks to "Al-Sharq Al-Awsat" that the collaboration with the Ministry of Health will have positive repercussions on the lifestyle of diabetes patients in the Kingdom, helping avoid factors that cause physical complications, thereby reducing strain on private hospitals. He noted that statistics indicate that about 20 percent of the population in Saudi Arabia suffers from chronic diseases, including diabetes, who represent 60 to 70 percent of hospital patients, placing significant pressure on the healthcare sector.

The Saudi Ministry of Health's commitment to innovation is showcased through this memorandum of understanding with the emerging "Ethnain" platform, not only by elevating the level of diabetes care but also by laying out a blueprint for incorporating technology-based solutions into the broader healthcare ecosystem. The partnership with Ethnain reflects the brilliance of Saudi entrepreneurship and perfectly encapsulates the "Vision 2030" goal of nurturing a vibrant community supported by comprehensive healthcare services.

The remarkable growth achieved by the "Ethnain" company and its success in improving the lives of over 24,000 diabetes patients underscore the transformative power of local innovation in healthcare. Notably, within just three months of using the Ethnain platform, 75 percent of participants reported significant progress in managing their diabetes and overall health enhancement.

This collaboration between the Ministry of Health and "Ethnain" marks an important step towards realizing a vision where innovative solutions and proactive health management converge to create a sustainable and health-conscious community in the Kingdom.
