The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on June 6, 2025, that its Internal Security Directorate successfully prevented an attempt to smuggle advanced weaponry into Lebanon.

The operation unfolded in the city of Qusayr, located in the Homs countryside, where security forces executed strategic monitoring that culminated in the interception of a vehicle carrying concealed arms.

According to the ministry’s statement, the apprehended shipment included Kornet anti-tank guided missiles and 30mm ammunition, which were cleverly camouflaged among a load of vegetables.

The authorities confirmed that a patrol of the Internal Security Directorate seized the shipment by selecting an optimal time and location for the operation.

The driver of the vehicle has been taken into custody, with the weapons confiscated as evidence.

The individual has been referred to the relevant judicial authorities for further legal proceedings.

In a separate incident on the same day, two traffic police officers were killed in a shooting attack near Masaken Jaleen, situated in the western countryside of Daraa, a region known for its unrest.

This incident highlights an ongoing trend of targeted violence in the area, with multiple assassination attempts reported recently.

ISIS-affiliated groups and remnants associated with the Syrian regime have been implicated in these escalations of violence in southern Syria.
