UN Debates Resolution on Israeli Occupation, Houthi-US Controversy, and Global Tensions Escalate

UN to debate resolution demanding end to Israeli occupation; Houthi official claims US offer of recognition in exchange for ceasefire.
The UN General Assembly is set to debate a resolution demanding an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories within 12 months, based on an advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice calling the occupation "unlawful." As Palestinian Ambassador Riyad Mansour hopes international pressure will spur change, Israel has denounced the resolution as "disgraceful."

Amid escalating Middle East tensions, a senior Houthi official claimed that the US offered to recognize the Houthi government in Sanaa to stop Yemeni rebel attacks—a statement the US denies. This claim followed a Houthi missile attack on central Israel, prompting a stern warning from Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and highlighting the Houthis' continued aggression during the Gaza conflict.

In a tragic event, a bus carrying children celebrating Prophet Muhammad’s birth crashed in Kaduna state, northern Nigeria, killing at least 25 and injuring 31 others. The vehicle, overloaded with 63 children heading to Saminaka, lost control and collided with a truck, with reports suggesting the death toll might be higher.

Meanwhile, Russia's FSB security service reported the shooting of a Ukrainian agent alleged to be planting explosives under a senior defense industry official’s car in the Sverdlovsk region. The agent was killed during a confrontation while placing the device, continuing a series of targeted attacks amid ongoing hostilities between Russia and Ukraine.

In response to heightened border tensions, President Vladimir Putin has ordered an increase in the Russian army by 180,000 troops, bringing the total to 1.5 million, now the world's second-largest military. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov cited threats on Russia's western borders and instability in the east as reasons for this expansion.

Turning to India, Arvind Kejriwal has resigned as Delhi's chief minister amid corruption allegations, after being released on bail in a case accusing him of receiving kickbacks for liquor licenses. His party labels the case a “political conspiracy” by Modi’s BJP, with Atishi set to serve as interim chief minister until next year's elections.
