UAE reaffirms commitment to protecting sovereignty, supporting regional security

The UAE condemns Iranian attacks and threats targeting the country and other regional nations, while stressing its dedication to safeguarding national security and stability.
Riyadh: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reiterated its strong commitment to ensuring regional security and stability, as well as protecting the populations of the region from the repercussions of conflicts.

The UAE's foreign ministry issued a statement on Saturday underscoring this commitment in light of recent tensions. The UAE has condemned, in the most forceful terms possible, the unprovoked Iranian attacks and threats targeting the nation and its neighboring countries.

These included nearly 3,000 ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones directed towards the UAE.

The attacks resulted in civilian casualties and caused significant damage to civilian infrastructure, representing a clear violation of state sovereignty and posing a substantial threat to regional security and stability. The foreign ministry emphasized that all measures taken by the UAE have been strictly within the bounds of defensive actions aimed at safeguarding its sovereignty, protecting its civilians, and preserving vital infrastructure.

These actions align with the country's legitimate right to ensure national security while maintaining stability in the region.Furthermore, the statement asserted that attempts at coercion or promoting malicious narratives and allegations will not undermine the UAE's steadfast principles nor deter the nation from upholding its supreme national interests, sovereignty, and independent decision-making capabilities.

The current tensions stem from a military campaign initiated by the US and Israel against Iran on February 28, which has resulted in retaliatory attacks by Tehran targeting Gulf neighbors, as well as US and Israeli assets within the region.A ceasefire, announced on April 7, appears to be holding despite reports of occasional skirmishes.

The ongoing situation highlights the complexities of regional geopolitics and the persistent efforts of nations involved to navigate these challenges while prioritizing peace and stability.
