Syria has formally welcomed the lifting of key restrictions under the United States’ Caesar Act, describing the move as a significant step toward economic recovery and renewed engagement with the region.

Syrian officials said the easing of sanctions reflects growing international recognition of the need to stabilise the country and address humanitarian and economic challenges after more than a decade of conflict.

In official statements, Damascus expressed gratitude to Türkiye and Saudi Arabia for their diplomatic efforts in supporting the removal of the sanctions measures.

Syrian leaders credited both countries with playing a constructive role in advocating dialogue, de-escalation and regional cooperation, and said their engagement helped create conditions for the reassessment of punitive economic restrictions.

The Caesar Act, introduced in twenty-twenty, had imposed sweeping sanctions targeting Syria’s financial system, energy sector and reconstruction activities.

Syrian officials have long argued that the measures exacerbated economic hardship for ordinary citizens and hindered recovery efforts.

The partial lifting of the sanctions is expected to ease constraints on trade, investment and humanitarian operations, potentially opening the door to increased regional commerce and infrastructure rebuilding.

Syria’s government said the development aligns with broader trends toward Arab and regional re-engagement, following steps by several countries to restore diplomatic ties with Damascus.

Officials emphasised that cooperation with neighbouring states, particularly Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, will be essential in supporting stability, economic revitalisation and the return of displaced Syrians.

The government said it remains committed to working with regional partners to translate the easing of sanctions into tangible improvements for the Syrian people.
