Syrian authorities have facilitated the return of 1,200 displaced families to their hometowns and villages in Afrin, a predominantly Kurdish area located in northwestern Syria.

These families had previously sought refuge in Hasakah, situated in eastern Syria, due to the country's prolonged civil war between 2011 and 2024.

The logistical support for this relocation effort was provided by internal security units from both the Hasakah and Aleppo governorates.

These units accompanied the convoy throughout its approximately 400 km journey back to Afrin, according to reports from the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

This move is part of an ongoing agreement between the Syrian government and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), aimed at facilitating the return of displaced individuals to their ancestral regions.

In April, a similar initiative resulted in 800 displaced families returning to Afrin from Hasakah.

In January, the Syrian army had entered Hasakah and subsequently deployed its forces across the Jazira region to secure it as part of an agreement between the government and the SDF.

The government has been actively involved in efforts to facilitate the return of displaced people across various parts of Syria, including the border town of Ras Al-Ain, as mentioned by SANA.
