The Prince of Wales embarks on a three-day visit to Riyadh to deepen UK-Saudi ties across trade, investment and cultural engagement
Prince William, the Prince of Wales, has arrived in Saudi Arabia for a three-day official visit, marking a significant diplomatic engagement at the request of the United Kingdom government as London seeks to strengthen ties with Riyadh.
The visit, running from February nine to February eleven, reflects growing economic and political engagement between the two countries as they approach nearly a century of formal diplomatic relations.
Upon landing at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh,
Prince William was greeted with official honours, including a ceremonial welcome before meeting Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The two leaders toured the UNESCO World Heritage site of At-Turaif and held substantive discussions at a private dinner, underscoring shared interests in expanding cooperation across trade, energy, investment and cultural exchange.
The itinerary also includes engagements at historic sites and initiatives showcasing conservation efforts, youth outreach and people-to-people links.
The visit occurs against a complex backdrop of geopolitical priorities and longstanding UK–Saudi relations, which encompass substantial commercial ties and strategic cooperation in energy and defence.
British officials have framed the trip as an opportunity to build on elevated bilateral engagement, including recent high-level government visits and ongoing negotiations on broader economic collaborations, with both sides citing mutual benefits from deeper commercial partnerships.
While the Saudi Crown Prince remains a figure of international scrutiny over past human rights concerns,
Prince William’s role as heir to the throne is defined by political neutrality, with any sensitive matters to be addressed privately in accordance with diplomatic protocol.
British diplomats have noted that the visit complements official government initiatives by leveraging the unique role of the monarchy in diplomatic outreach and soft power.
This mission is
Prince William’s first major overseas engagement of 2026 and follows his and Princess Kate’s recent joint statement expressing concern for victims of the ongoing Epstein files revelations.
As the Prince of Wales, William continues to expand his responsibilities on the global stage, supporting UK interests abroad while engaging in cultural and economic dialogue with key international partners.
The visit is expected to reinforce ties as the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia look to explore future avenues of cooperation across sectors including sustainable development, education and innovation.
