Overnight strikes result in significant casualties, including 22 children and numerous women and elderly individuals.
GAZA: Gaza’s civil defense agency informed AFP on Wednesday that at least 50 people were killed by Israeli strikes overnight in the Palestinian territory.
This report comes shortly after US President
Donald Trump's statement indicating that nothing would disrupt the ceasefire agreement he facilitated.
According to the agency, among those killed were 22 children, along with women and elderly individuals, while approximately 200 people sustained injuries.
The civil defense spokesperson, Mahmoud Bassal, described the situation in Gaza as 'catastrophic and terrifying,' asserting that these strikes clearly violated the ceasefire agreement.
The Israeli military operations targeted tents for displaced persons, homes, and areas near a hospital in Gaza.
Israel initiated its air strikes on Tuesday, following allegations that Hamas had attacked Israeli troops within Gaza and breached the truce.
However, Hamas denied any involvement in such an attack, reaffirming their adherence to the US-brokered ceasefire.
The Israeli army confirmed that one of its soldiers, Yona Efraim Feldbaum, was killed during combat in southern Gaza.
In response to these developments, Trump defended Israel's actions, advocating for a retaliatory strike while affirming that the truce would remain intact.
Despite the ongoing tensions, both parties have been urged to maintain their commitment to the ceasefire agreement.
As the situation continues to unfold, fears of renewed hostilities persist among the Gaza population.
Many are expressing a desire for peace and rest, fearing potential escalations and the return to war.
