Saudi Arabia Positions Itself as a Global Gaming Powerhouse Under Vision 2030

New forecasts show the Kingdom’s online gaming market set to more than double by 2033 as investment, youth engagement, and digital infrastructure accelerate
Saudi Arabia’s online gaming sector is entering a sustained period of expansion, with new projections indicating the market will rise from an estimated US$1.77 million in 2024 to US$4.44 million by 2033. The anticipated growth, driven by a compound annual rate of 10.77% from 2025 onward, highlights how gaming has evolved from a leisure activity into a pillar of the Kingdom’s digital economy.

The shift is fuelled by a combination of rapid internet adoption, one of the world’s youngest national populations, and high smartphone penetration.

More than twenty-three million residents now identify as gamers, reflecting how online play—from casual mobile titles to elite esports competitions—has become a defining part of social interaction and entertainment in the Kingdom.

Government support under Vision 2030 has further accelerated this momentum, with national strategies positioning gaming and esports as core drivers of diversification.

The Kingdom aims to generate tens of thousands of jobs in the sector and contribute more than US$13 billion to the economy by the end of the decade.

Major institutions, including Savvy Gaming Group backed by the Public Investment Fund, are investing heavily in international partnerships and local studio development, while Riyadh has emerged as a global esports destination through the annual Esports World Cup.

Infrastructure development has strengthened the ecosystem, with widespread 5G, expanding fibre networks and competitive broadband pricing enabling low-latency gaming and cloud-based services.

Mobile gaming remains the country’s dominant platform, benefiting from affordable devices, Arabic-language content, and strong adoption among casual and female gamers.

Console and PC gaming, however, are growing steadily as subscription services and international esports titles gain popularity.

Saudi Arabia’s regulatory environment continues to balance cultural standards with market growth, occasionally requiring adjustments to global titles before release.

Piracy and intellectual-property concerns remain challenges for developers, though recent policy reforms and stronger cybersecurity measures aim to create a more secure commercial landscape.

As new studios open in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, and with investment flowing into virtual-reality, cloud gaming and metaverse technologies, the Kingdom is transitioning from being primarily a consumer market to becoming a creator of regional and global content.

Analysts expect Saudi Arabia to play an increasingly influential role in shaping the digital entertainment industry through 2033.
