President Trump warns that Israel will lose US support if it moves forward with sovereignty claims in the West Bank.
LONDON: The United States has warned Israel that it will end its support if Israeli parliament passes a bill granting sovereignty over the West Bank, according to President
Donald Trump.
The legislation, which refers to the region as 'Judea and Samaria,' passed a preliminary stage on Wednesday with 25 votes in favor and 24 against.
The bill must go through four stages before becoming law.
President Trump has stated that he is confident the bill will not pass into law, citing his commitments to Arab nations.
He further reassured that Israel will not move forward with annexing the West Bank.
Despite this, Israeli parliament also voted to apply its laws to an unauthorized settlement near Jerusalem, Maale Adumim, despite a request from US Vice President JD Vance to postpone coalition votes during his official visit to Israel.
The US has criticized these actions, stating that it opposes any move by Israel to annex the West Bank.
