Rubio Advocates for Swift Deployment of International Force in Gaza

US diplomat Marco Rubio urges formation of an international stabilization force to maintain ceasefire in Gaza, as Palestinian factions agree to hand over governance to a committee of technocrats.
TEL AVIV: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed optimism on Friday about the imminent establishment of an international force to oversee the ceasefire in Gaza.

This announcement follows a visit by Vice President J.D. Vance as part of the US' concerted efforts to secure adherence to the truce from both Hamas and Israel.

Rubio emphasized the urgency for creating 'the conditions for the stabilization force to come in as soon as it possibly can be put together.'

During a meeting in Cairo, Palestinian factions agreed to entrust governance of the Gaza Strip to a temporary committee comprised of independent technocrats, according to a joint statement published on the Hamas website.

This committee is set to manage the territory's affairs in collaboration with Arab countries and international organizations.

In Gaza, families continue their search for housing amidst the rubble—often discovering homes situated within Israeli-controlled areas beyond what is referred to as the 'Yellow Line.'

The US is contemplating a shift from the controversial US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation to an alternative proposal for delivering humanitarian aid.

According to sources within the US government and humanitarian circles, several options are being explored to enhance aid flow into the Palestinian enclave post-conflict.

Gaza's infrastructure has been severely damaged; over 61 million tonnes of debris now blanket the territory, with UN data indicating that three-quarters of its buildings have been destroyed.

The Israeli military's operations have led to the destruction of nearly 193,000 structures, equating to approximately 78% of existing pre-conflict buildings, according to satellite imagery analyzed by UNOSAT.

In a recent assessment covering Gaza City from September 22-23, the UN estimated an even higher proportion—83%—of its buildings damaged or destroyed.

The total debris accumulated in Gaza weighs over 61.5 million tonnes, which is roughly equivalent to 169 kilograms of debris per square meter of territory.
