Israel Seizes Land in Northeastern Ramallah, Expands West Bank Settlement
Israeli authorities have seized 77.4 hectares of land near Ramallah to expand the Malakhi HaShalom outpost.
LONDON: In a recent development concerning ongoing territorial disputes in the occupied West Bank, Israeli authorities have reportedly seized approximately 77.4 hectares of land in the northeastern region of Ramallah.
The action was taken by declaring this land as 'state land,' according to sources from the Palestinian Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission.The commission further explained that the affected area comprises parts of the villages of Al-Mughayir and Jabait.
This newly captured land has been incorporated into the Malakhi HaShalom outpost, an Israeli settlement established in 2015 on territory originally belonging to Al-Mughayir.
The Israeli government, under its far-right administration in 2023, unveiled plans to legalize this outpost and extend its territorial reach.Additionally, the commission noted that since early 2023, a total area of approximately 6,381 hectares, or 25,824 dunams— a measurement commonly used by Palestinians—is designated as 'state land.' This seizure represents an ongoing pattern of Israeli land acquisition in the region.The presence of more than 700,000 settlers in the West Bank remains a contentious issue due to Israel's continued military occupation since June 1967.
The expansion of settlements has been identified as a major obstacle hindering the establishment of a Palestinian state and impeding resolution of the longstanding Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
