Gaza civil defense reports 11 killed by Israeli fire

At least 11 people reportedly killed as Israel continues strikes on Palestinian territory.
Gaza's civil defense agency has reported that 11 individuals were killed due to Israeli gunfire and air strikes on Friday.

The incidents included two fatalities near an aid distribution site within the Palestinian territory.

Civil defense spokesperson Mahmud Bassal confirmed five deaths resulting from a strike near Khan Younis, along with four more casualties stemming from a separate attack in central Gaza's Deir El-Balah.

The Israeli army has not yet verified these strikes without specific coordinates.

Additionally, two individuals and over 70 others were injured while waiting for aid near a food distribution center managed by the US- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) between Khan Younis and Rafah.

The Israeli military has not responded to this report as of now.

Thousands of Gazans have gathered daily at aid distribution points, including four managed by GHF, which have been plagued by chaotic scenes and frequent reports of Israeli forces firing on those waiting for rations.

GHF denies any fatal shootings near their aid points.

Due to media restrictions in Gaza and challenges accessing various areas, AFP cannot independently verify the casualty numbers and details provided by the civil defense agency and other parties.

Israeli-imposed restrictions on goods and aid entry into Gaza since the start of the conflict nearly 22 months ago have resulted in food shortages and essential item scarcity, including medicine, medical supplies, and fuel necessary for hospital generators.

These shortages worsened with a more than two-month total blockade on aid imposed by Israel, which began easing in late May as GHF commenced operations.

Israel's defense ministry body overseeing civil affairs in the Palestinian territories, COGAT, stated that over 200 trucks of aid were collected and distributed by the UN and international organizations on Friday.

The UN emphasizes that Gaza requires at least 500 trucks of aid per day.

Furthermore, COGAT reported four fuel tankers for the UN entering the territory and 43 pallets of aid being airdropped in cooperation with the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Jordan.
