Escalation in Gaza: Israeli Military Operations Lead to High Casualty Figures

At least 91 Palestinians killed in renewed airstrikes and ground operations as the Israeli military targets Hamas amid resumed conflict.
At least 91 Palestinians have been killed and dozens wounded in Israeli airstrikes across Gaza, following the resumption of military operations by Israel, according to the enclave's health ministry.

This escalation comes after a two-month period of relative calm facilitated by a ceasefire agreement that is now effectively abandoned.

The Israeli military announced it had launched new ground operations in northern Gaza, specifically along the coastal route in the area of Beit Lahia, where they described their actions as part of an effort to expand a buffer zone separating the northern and southern halves of the territory.

Meanwhile, Palestinian militants from Hamas claimed to have retaliated by firing rockets into southern Israel, with the Israeli military reporting interception of some of these projectiles.

The renewed military campaign has been marked by intensive airstrikes that began on Tuesday, leading to one of the deadliest days in the ongoing conflict, which has already resulted in significant casualties over 17 months.

The military operations reportedly focused on a range of targets including residential homes and alleged Hamas infrastructure, with Israeli authorities warning civilians to evacuate particular areas ahead of expected bombardments.

On Thursday, local medical sources reported significant casualties from Israeli strikes, with some estimates indicating that over 500 individuals have died since the resumption of hostilities, including a substantial number of children.

Hospitals in Gaza are facing critical shortages, struggling to treat the influx of patients due to ongoing attacks which have destroyed healthcare facilities.

Amid these developments, Hamas and additional militant groups have condemned the Israeli actions as violations of the ceasefire agreement, calling on mediators to take immediate action to halt the violence.

Tensions have spurred broader calls for mobilization among Palestinians in both Gaza and the West Bank, with local leaders urging immediate solidarity actions.

Protests among Israeli civilians have also intensified in response to the government’s military escalation.

Demonstrators are raising concerns about the political motivations behind the resumed conflict and its implications for the hostages still held by Hamas, with differing accounts estimating that 59 hostages remain captive.

The developments have also garnered international attention, with calls for renewed diplomatic efforts to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis and facilitate negotiations for a lasting peace.

Meanwhile, the situation remains fluid, as both military actions and civilian responses unfold across the region.
