Hong Kong reports eight Covid cases and suspends Qatar's Doha flights

Hong Kong reported eight additional confirmed Covid-19 cases and announced suspending Qatar Airways flights from Doha, Qatar, for seven days.
The seven men and one woman were aged 11 to 61. Seven of the cases carried the N501Y mutant strain, indicating that they could be Omicron cases. The last carried L452R, which made him a probable Delta case.

Five patients tested positive at Hong Kong International Airport, and the remaining three tested positive during quarantine.

Three of them went to the United Kingdom, while two had been to Ghana. The other countries the patients visited were the United States, Australia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, and Pakistan.

Among them was a 37-year-old aircrew member. He arrived in Hong Kong from Austria, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates via flight EK384 on December 19.

Another case was a 54-year-old woman who lives at Block 18A, Serenity Villa, Tai Po. She tested negative in Hong Kong on December 15 and traveled to the US on December 16. She arrived in Hong Kong on December 19 from the US by flight CX881 and tested positive at the airport.

As a prudent measure, the places she resided and visited in Hong Kong during the incubation period have been included in a compulsory testing notice on Sunday (December 19). People who visited the locations need to undergo compulsory testing on or before Tuesday (December 21).

Furthermore, as the passenger flight QR818 operated by Qatar Airways arriving in Hong Kong from Doha, Qatar, saw five passengers confirmed with Covid-19 on arrival, the Department of Health has prohibited Qatar Airways flights from Doha from December 22 to January 4.
