Military spokesperson announces missile and drone strikes against naval targets in the Red Sea amid escalating tensions
The Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, announced on Wednesday the execution of missile and drone strikes targeting enemy naval vessels in the Red Sea, including the U.S. aircraft carrier Truman.
This statement follows airstrikes conducted by U.S. forces that resulted in the deaths of three individuals in the Al Hudaydah governorate of Yemen.
According to Saree, this engagement with the U.S. aircraft carrier marks the third such incident within a span of 24 hours.
He stated that operations against U.S. military assets would continue with increasing intensity, emphasizing the Houthis' intent to target both American and Israeli forces.
Saree articulated that these operations are directed towards ending what he termed the genocide against the Palestinian people and will persist until the assault on Gaza ceases and the blockade is lifted.
In a prior announcement on Tuesday, the Houthi group reported casualties from U.S. airstrikes that targeted a water project and a building in the Manasiriah district of Al Hudaydah, resulting in three deaths and three injuries.
The U.S. air operations reportedly extended to other regions, including the northern governorates of Saada and Hajjah, as confirmed by the Houthi-affiliated channel 'Al-Masirah'.
On March 15, a significant military escalation was initiated when former U.S. President
Donald Trump ordered a 'major strike' against Houthi positions in Yemen, threatening to 'completely eliminate' the group.
As of Tuesday evening, various reports indicate that U.S. air operations have escalated dramatically in Yemen, leading to the deaths of at least 65 civilians and injuries to 152 others, including women and children.
