Israel Intercepts Missile Launched from Yemen Amid Ongoing Houthi Attacks

Houthi rebels assert missile strike aimed at Ben Gurion International Airport as regional tensions escalate.
On June 3, 2025, the Israeli military confirmed the interception of a missile launched from Yemen, which the Houthi rebels claimed was targeting Israel’s primary airport, Ben Gurion International Airport, located near Tel Aviv.

The Israeli army reported that sirens sounded across several areas in Israel before the missile was intercepted, accompanied by loud booms heard over Jerusalem.

Yemen’s Houthi rebels have been involved in a series of missile and drone strikes aimed at Israel since the outbreak of conflict in Gaza in October 2023, which began with an attack by Hamas on Israel.

In a video statement, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree declared that the group’s missile force had executed a military operation targeting the airport.

The missile interception on June 3 followed a similar incident the day prior, which was also attributed to the Iran-backed rebels.

The Houthis have expressed their actions as acts of solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

After a two-month ceasefire in Gaza that ended in March, the Houthis resumed their attacks as Israel intensified its military operations in the territory.

Historically, most projectiles launched by the Houthis have been intercepted, although there has been at least one instance where a missile struck within the confines of Ben Gurion airport, marking a significant escalation in the conflict.

In response to these attacks, Israel has conducted airstrikes in Yemen, targeting regions including ports and the airport in the capital city of Sanaa, in retaliation for the missile assaults.
