Israeli Airstrikes Target Southern and Eastern Lebanon

Israeli military conducts aerial attacks amid ongoing regional tensions
On the evening of Thursday, Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes in southern and eastern Lebanon, with initial reports indicating no casualties.

The Lebanese National News Agency reported that four missiles targeted the area between the towns of Jbaa, Zhalté, and Siniyah in the Jezzine district of southern Lebanon.

In the eastern region of Bekaa, the agency noted that Israeli aircraft struck the Shahra area in the town of Janta, located in the Baalbek district.

The Israeli military stated that its forces attacked a site described as housing underground military infrastructure in the Bekaa region, as well as another location in southern Lebanon identified as containing rocket launch platforms, which they claimed were linked to Hezbollah activity.

The tensions between Israel and Hezbollah escalated following the onset of border skirmishes on October 8, 2023, which intensified into a broader conflict by September 23, 2024. The ongoing violence has reportedly resulted in 4,115 fatalities and 16,909 injuries, including a significant number of children and women, along with the displacement of approximately 1.4 million people.

Since the establishment of a ceasefire agreement on November 27 of the previous year, Israel has allegedly committed hundreds of violations, leading to at least 94 deaths and 297 injuries, according to an official Lebanese tally.

Israel has not completed its withdrawal from southern Lebanon as stipulated by the ceasefire agreement, having executed a partial withdrawal while maintaining its presence in five key Lebanese sites.

Additionally, the Israeli government has recently begun constructing a buffer zone extending one to two kilometers into Lebanese territory, as reported by Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.

Israel justifies its continued occupation of these hills by asserting that the Lebanese Army has not fulfilled its responsibilities under the ceasefire agreement, claiming an inability to maintain security along the 'Blue Line'.
