The Netherlands has voiced significant concern regarding Israel's recent decision to cut off electricity to the Gaza Strip, a move described as a violation of international law.

Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp expressed these concerns in a statement on social media platform X, emphasizing that blocking humanitarian aid and essential services constitutes a breach of legal standards.

Veldkamp further urged the importance of immediate ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas, the governing entity in Gaza.

He called for a swift resolution aimed at addressing the pressing issues of hostages, the escalating humanitarian crisis within Gaza, and the cessation of ongoing violence.

Israel implemented the electricity cut on Sunday as part of its ongoing blockade of the enclave, which has intensified despite a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange agreement established in January.

This latest decision follows Israel's prior announcement last week to halt humanitarian aid from entering Gaza, prompting grave warnings from both local authorities and international human rights organizations about the potential for widespread hunger among the Palestinian population.

Since the onset of its military operations, the conflict has resulted in substantial casualties, with reports indicating nearly 48,500 deaths, the majority being women and children.

The damage to the infrastructure in Gaza has also been reportedly extensive, contributing to a dire humanitarian situation.

In November 2023, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity related to actions taken in Gaza.

Additionally, Israel is currently facing legal challenges with a genocide case being pursued at the International Court of Justice regarding its military actions in the region.
