Over 100 Injured in Major Gas Pipeline Explosion in Malaysia

A gas pipeline operated by Petronas exploded in Puchong, injuring at least 145 individuals and affecting hundreds more.
A significant explosion occurred early on Tuesday in Puchong, a town located near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, when a gas pipeline operated by the state-owned energy company Petronas burst.

The incident resulted in over 100 injuries and extensive property damage, impacting nearly 200 homes.

Authorities reported that at least 305 individuals were affected by the blast.

While no fatalities have been recorded, 145 of those injured were hospitalized, with 41 individuals having since been discharged after receiving treatment for burns, respiratory issues, and other injuries.

The fire from the explosion created a towering inferno that was visible from several kilometers away, prompting widespread panic as windows shattered in nearby neighborhoods.

Eyewitness accounts detailed scenes of chaos, with one resident, Raja Hilmy Bin Raja Idris, describing how flaming debris rained down during the explosion.

Witnesses reported that the situation escalated quickly, with various explosions leading to an atmosphere of fear.

By mid-afternoon, local emergency services had successfully extinguished the fire; however, the aftermath has continued to disrupt the lives of those in the vicinity.

In response to the incident, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that both the government and Petronas would assume full responsibility for the recovery process, which may take up to a year to complete.

The Prime Minister confirmed that the cause of the explosion is currently under investigation and pledged financial assistance for those displaced by the disaster.

The incident has drawn attention to the safety protocols in place for energy infrastructure in Malaysia, and it follows a series of industrial accidents that raised concerns about regulatory oversight in the sector.
