In the early hours of Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Russia had launched a barrage of missiles and drones on the capital city of Kyiv, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.

The attacks come following a warning from Russian President Vladimir Putin, relayed through former U.S. President
Donald Trump, indicating that the Kremlin would respond to Kyiv after Ukrainian drones reportedly disabled several Russian strategic bombers in deep strikes within Russia.
Zelensky reported that three emergency response personnel were killed during the missile and drone strikes in Kyiv, with a fourth victim identified in an attack in the city of Lutsk, located in northwestern Ukraine.
In a video address, Zelensky stated that the casualties in Kyiv were members of rescue teams who rushed to the site of the initial strike, only to be targeted again in a subsequent Russian attack.
Additionally, the President noted that around 80 individuals sustained injuries as a result of the strikes, which affected multiple towns and cities across Ukraine, including Kyiv.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha posted on social media platform X, asserting that Russia retaliated during the night by launching attacks against civilians in Ukraine, which led to damage to residential buildings and infrastructure related to energy supply.
The Kyiv military administration reported that the metro transportation system was disrupted by a Russian strike that damaged tracks between stations.
They further indicated that the state railway company rerouted certain trains due to damage on rail lines outside of the capital.
Witnesses reported a series of loud explosions that could be heard several kilometers away from the affected areas.
Reports also emerged of four explosions in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.
In a contrasting narrative, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that its forces targeted military and military-related objectives in response to what it termed 'terrorist acts' by Ukraine against Russia.
The Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, reiterated that the conflict in Ukraine is an 'existential issue' for Russia, elaborating on a press conference that it pertains to national interests, security, the future, and the future of the nation’s children.
