Mojtaba Khamenei's Injuries from US-Israel Strike Considered 'Superficial'

Mojtaba Khamenei's Injuries from US-Israel Strike Considered 'Superficial'

Health Ministry official provides insight into the condition of Iran's supreme leader following recent attacks.
An Iranian Health Ministry official disclosed on Monday that the injuries sustained by Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei in the US-Israeli strikes late last February were merely 'superficial.' This revelation offers a rare glimpse into the circumstances surrounding his wounds, which have fueled speculation about his health and public absence since being named as Iran's supreme leader on March 8.

He has only issued written statements to the public, leading many to question his condition.

Khamenei, aged 56, succeeded his father, Ali Khamenei, who was tragically killed in the US-Israeli strikes on February 28.

These strikes triggered a series of retaliatory Iranian attacks across the region.

The Health Ministry's spokesperson, Hossein Kermanpour, detailed Mojtaba's arrival at an unnamed hospital on the day of the incident.

He entered the operating room around 1 p.m. Tehran time and was treated for minor injuries to his face, head, and legs, which did not require any serious medical procedures or amputations.

Kermanpour noted that Khamenei remained fasting during the holy month of Ramadan until nightfall, even while receiving treatment.

Further corroborating his relatively light condition, Kermanpour mentioned that Khamenei was discharged from the hospital at around 2:00 a.m. on March 1 and was able to fast throughout the night until iftar.

This account suggests that the Supreme Leader's health was robust enough not only to withstand minor injuries but also to maintain fasting during his recovery.

On May 7, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated he had met with Khamenei for two and a half hours, further countering speculation about the supreme leader's condition.

Three days later, it was reported by state TV that Ali Abdollahi, head of Iran’s military central command, had met with Khamenei to receive new directives regarding ongoing operations against their adversaries.

In other developments related to the ongoing tensions between Iran and foreign powers, the Iranian Foreign Ministry warned on Monday that while negotiations have made some progress towards ending the Middle Eastern conflict, a formal agreement is not yet imminent.

Esmaeil Baqaei, the Foreign Ministry's spokesman, indicated that many of the discussed issues are nearing resolution but fell short of suggesting an immediate signing of a peace accord.

Despite the political tensions, Ali Vaez, director of the Iran Project at the International Crisis Group, emphasized the dire need for Iran to receive hundreds of billions of dollars in financial aid to repair its severely damaged economy.
