Widespread Protests Erupt Across Arab and European Cities in Solidarity with Gaza

Mass demonstrations and strikes marked a day of global solidarity with Gaza amid ongoing Israeli military actions.
On April 7, 2025, several cities in the Arab world and Europe witnessed significant demonstrations in support of Palestine, condemning the continued Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and violations against civilians in the region.

In the Syrian capital, Damascus, protesters gathered, chanting against what they referred to as 'international silence' regarding the conflict.

They called for immediate humanitarian aid to be allowed into Gaza.

Meanwhile, students from the Free Aleppo University held a rally in the town of Azaz to express solidarity with the Palestinian people while opposing Israeli incursions in Daraa, southern Syria.

In Lebanon, protests were similarly intense.

In Beirut, demonstrators condemned the Israeli airstrikes on Gaza and urged an immediate ceasefire.

The city of Sidon also hosted protests echoing the same sentiments, demanding humanitarian assistance for the besieged population.

Tunisian university students launched a general strike across various institutions in response to a 'Day of Rage' called by student organizations, who rallied against the so-called acts of genocide in Gaza and the inaction of the international community.

In Mauritania's capital, Nouakchott, a significant sit-in was organized by civic, trade union, and student groups in front of the U.S. embassy.

Participants demanded accountability for those responsible for the suffering inflicted on Palestinians and criticized American support for Israel's military actions.

The Moroccan capital, Rabat, witnessed a mass protest described as 'million-strong' in support of Gaza and in condemnation of the ongoing Israeli incursion.

In Europe, protests unfolded in Berlin near the local parliament building, where organizations supporting Palestine voiced opposition to the deportation of four foreign activists associated with pro-Gaza protests.

Demonstrators argued this was part of a broader effort to silence supportive voices since the onset of hostilities on October 7, 2023.

In London, residents organized demonstrations denouncing Israeli violations against Gaza, with similar gatherings occurring in Newcastle, where calls for an immediate military ceasefire were made alongside requests for lifting the blockade on the region.

On the diplomatic front, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, and French President Emmanuel Macron held a joint summit in Cairo.

The leaders emphasized the urgent need for the international community to push for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza.

They called for a complete humanitarian response to alleviate the worsening crisis facing Palestinians under siege.

The summit resulted in a statement of priorities which included a specific call for an immediate ceasefire, ensuring humanitarian aid access, and maintaining security governance in Gaza under the Palestinian Authority.

President Macron reiterated his stance against any forced displacement of Palestinians, highlighting the necessity for a Palestinian governance structure post-conflict that excludes Hamas from leadership roles.

He also addressed the humanitarian crisis in the region while announcing plans for further support from France.

Furthermore, a general strike swept through the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, as part of a coordinated global action to highlight the ongoing violence in Gaza.

The strike, supported by various political factions and civil society groups, aimed to amplify calls for urgent attention to Palestinian suffering amid escalating Israeli military operations.

During these events, participants expressed a unified message of support for Gaza and decried the ongoing siege and military actions that have significantly impacted civilians, resulting in substantial casualties and destruction.
