A Yemeni activist, Masoud Al-Dhahyani, reportedly died in a Houthi-controlled prison in Sana'a, inciting significant concern and outrage among the public.

Following his family's receipt of a phone call informing them of his death, no details regarding the cause or circumstances were disclosed.

Al-Dhahyani had been abducted several years earlier from his home in Ramah, Maris district, located in central Yemen's Al-Dhale' Governorate.

After months of enforced disappearance, his family confirmed that he was imprisoned in a facility operated by the Houthi militia.

According to the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms, Al-Dhahyani was subjected to various forms of physical and psychological torture during his detention.

The organization highlighted that, despite being deprived of essential medical care, he endured the harsh conditions until his untimely death.

His death has drawn attention to the plight of many others who have experienced similar fates at the hands of the Houthi militia, with reports indicating that there are numerous cases of death, kidnapping, and imprisonment in recent years.

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms also addressed the plight of approximately 394 individuals currently in captivity, including children, women, and elderly persons, noting that many have faced torture or committed suicide in response to the brutal treatment.

Additionally, there have been instances where detainees died from heart attacks related to the appalling prison conditions.

The incident underscores ongoing human rights abuses in Yemen, as civil society organizations continue to call for accountability and resolution regarding such enforced disappearances and inhumane treatment within detention facilities.
