Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia Elevate Cooperation Through Strategic Consular and Diplomatic Agenda

High-level consultations in Riyadh deepen ties on visas, Hajj arrangements and citizen protection as both nations advance bilateral relations
Senior officials from Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia met in Riyadh to expand cooperation across several practical and strategic fronts, demonstrating robust momentum in bilateral relations between the Central Asian republic and the Gulf kingdom.

The talks, held on December 23 and 24, 2025, involved key figures including Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Olimjon Abdullaev and Saudi Deputy Minister of Interior Khalid bin Muhammad Al-Battal, with both sides underscoring a shared commitment to deepen partnership.

The discussions focused principally on improving mechanisms for visa issuance and travel facilitation, including for Uzbek citizens undertaking Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages.

Saudi officials expressed respect for Uzbek pilgrims and called for streamlined administrative processes within the framework of current legislation, reflecting close cooperation on religious exchange and people-to-people links.

The two delegations also agreed to enhance the work of a joint commission between their interior ministries and adopt coordinated measures to protect the rights and interests of citizens traveling or residing abroad.

In parallel consultations, the first round of consular talks between the foreign ministries of both countries was completed, setting out plans to expand cooperation in labour migration, mutual recognition of civil documentation and the modernisation of digital consular services.

Parties agreed to share best practices in digital platforms to support foreign citizens and facilitate prompt communication on issues involving detentions, temporary custody or deportation, signalling a commitment to robust citizen support mechanisms.

The meetings also took place alongside other diplomatic engagements reflecting broadening ties.

Uzbekistan’s foreign minister hosted Saudi Arabia’s ambassador, Yousef Al-Otaibi, on the occasion of the ambassador’s departure, affirming strong political dialogue and mutual interest in expanding trade, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

These developments come amid a backdrop of steadily increasing high-level visits and exchanges, with both capitals highlighting the importance of strategic partnership, mutual trust and deepening collaboration across multiple sectors.

Officials agreed to hold the next phase of consular consultations in Tashkent, signalling a sustained trajectory of practical cooperation.

As the agenda unfolds, both nations appear poised to capitalise on shared priorities in governance, mobility, people-centric services and socio-economic engagement, building on years of diplomatic engagement and mutual respect.
