Cristiano Ronaldo Reaffirms His Commitment to Saudi Arabia Amid Transfer Speculation

The Al-Nassr and Portugal captain insists he belongs in Saudi Arabia despite a brief dispute over transfers and emerging interest from abroad
Cristiano Ronaldo has emphatically reaffirmed his commitment to Saudi Arabia and his club Al-Nassr, declaring that he ‘belongs to Saudi Arabia’ after recent speculation about his future.

The Portuguese forward, now 41, made the remarks following a standout performance in the Saudi Pro League, where he scored twice to help Al-Nassr reclaim the top spot in the title race.

Ronaldo’s comments come soon after he briefly withdrew himself from first-team selection in protest against perceived lack of transfer support during the winter window.

His declaration of affinity for the Kingdom — emphasising that he and his family have been warmly welcomed and that he is happy to stay — was delivered after being named the most valuable player in a dominant win over Al-Hazem that strengthened Al-Nassr’s position in the league.

Ronaldo stated that he wants to continue his career in Saudi Arabia, describing the country as one that has embraced him, his family and his friends.

The veteran’s renewed public commitment follows a short absence from two matches earlier in February, when he protested Al-Nassr’s limited transfer activity compared with some rivals backed by the powerful Public Investment Fund.

Despite that brief disagreement, he returned to the pitch and continued to lead the scoring charts, playing a pivotal role in his team’s title ambitions.

Ronaldo’s contract with Al-Nassr runs until at least 2027, a deal he signed last year that reaffirmed his long-term role in the Saudi Pro League’s burgeoning profile.

His presence has been credited with attracting global attention to the league and catalysing the arrival of other high-profile players.

The Portuguese captain is also expected to feature for his national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico later this year while continuing his leadership at club level.
