Saudi Arabia’s Ports Authority has moved to seek a strategic partnership with the Suez Canal Authority to support the next phase of development at Jeddah Islamic Port, underscoring the kingdom’s ambition to strengthen its role as a global logistics hub.

The proposal focuses on technical cooperation, operational expertise and joint initiatives designed to enhance port efficiency and expand capacity along one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors.

Saudi officials said the potential partnership would draw on the Suez Canal Authority’s experience managing high-volume shipping traffic and integrated maritime services, while aligning with Saudi Arabia’s long-term plans to modernise port infrastructure and logistics under its national transport strategy.

Jeddah Islamic Port is the kingdom’s busiest seaport and a key gateway for trade across the Red Sea, handling a substantial share of Saudi imports, exports and trans-shipment activity.

The discussions reflect Riyadh’s broader efforts to position its ports as competitive alternatives and complements to established global hubs by improving turnaround times, digital systems and intermodal connectivity.

Saudi Ports Authority has already invested heavily in automation, berth expansion and private-sector participation, with officials highlighting rising throughput and growing interest from international shipping lines.

For the Suez Canal Authority, cooperation with Saudi Arabia offers an opportunity to deepen ties with a major regional partner and enhance coordination along the Red Sea supply chain.

Both sides see potential benefits in synchronising port operations and maritime services to support smoother cargo flows between Asia, Europe and Africa.
