Saudi Official Reaffirms Riyadh’s Support for Peaceful US-Iran Dialogue Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Saudi Official Reaffirms Riyadh’s Support for Peaceful US-Iran Dialogue Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Saudi Arabia denies urging military action against Tehran and underscores its commitment to diplomacy and regional stability
A senior Saudi official has reaffirmed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s support for diplomatic efforts to resolve tensions between the United States and Iran, dismissing recent reports that Riyadh has urged Washington to pursue military action against Tehran.

The official, speaking to Saudi-owned media, described claims in US outlets that the kingdom had pressed for a strike as inaccurate and said Riyadh remains committed to finding a peaceful resolution through dialogue and negotiation.

According to the statement, Saudi Arabia supports efforts aimed at addressing contentious issues between the United States and Iran through diplomatic channels, stressing that ‘‘Saudi Arabia supports efforts to find a peaceful solution to all contentious issues between the US and Iran through dialogue and diplomatic means.’’ The source also stressed that the kingdom rejects any use of its territory or airspace for military operations against Iran.

The remarks came amid heightened speculation in the international press about shifting regional dynamics and Washington’s posture toward Tehran, including commentary that Riyadh had privately encouraged a harder US stance.

The Saudi official categorically denied these accounts, saying they did not reflect the government’s position.

The clarification follows a recent phone call between Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, during which the crown prince reiterated support for resolving bilateral disputes through dialogue and underscored the importance of regional stability.

Saudi Arabia’s stance reflects broader Gulf concerns over the potential for escalation and the impact any conflict could have on security, economic stability and energy markets across the Middle East.

While Riyadh maintains robust security ties with the United States, including in defence and intelligence cooperation, its officials have consistently emphasised restraint and de-escalation, arguing that lasting peace and stability can only be secured through diplomatic engagement rather than military confrontation.

The reaffirmed position comes as the region watches closely for developments in US-Iran relations, with both governments facing pressure at home and abroad over the management of regional security challenges.

Saudi Arabia’s insistence on diplomacy underscores its strategic priority of avoiding expanded conflict and supporting peaceful outcomes that protect the interests of the kingdom and its neighbours.
