Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, the secretary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), has commended Qatar and the United States for their pivotal roles in mediating a peace agreement between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The agreement aims to alleviate tensions and foster security and stability in the region, thereby promoting prosperity and international peace.

This development comes amid an escalation in fighting since 2021 within the eastern DRC, which is rich in valuable minerals such as cobalt, coltan, lithium, tin, and gold.The peace agreement between Rwanda and the DRC has raised hopes for an end to the ongoing conflict that has resulted in thousands of fatalities and the displacement of hundreds of thousands.

Albudaiwi highlighted Qatar's efforts in driving this accord, emphasizing a growing trend of GCC countries engaging in initiatives promoting peaceful solutions and enhancing security and stability across various global regions.The GCC is dedicated to utilizing diplomacy and dialogue as means to address crises and foster sustainable development.

This commitment reflects the organization's belief in these methods as key components to achieving long-term peace and stability.
