US Senators Urge Rubio to Facilitate Baby Formula Deliveries to Gaza

US Senators Urge Rubio to Facilitate Baby Formula Deliveries to Gaza

Five Democrat senators call for increased baby formula shipments amid escalating conflict and humanitarian concerns in the Palestinian enclave.
LONDON: In response to the dire situation in Gaza, where severe restrictions on humanitarian aid have left infants at risk of starvation, five US Democratic senators have written a letter to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The letter urges him to use his authority to facilitate a significant increase in baby formula entering the Palestinian enclave.

The Israeli military's recent intensification of operations in Gaza has heightened fears for the safety and well-being of vulnerable civilians.

Reports from international observers indicate potential famine conditions, exacerbating an already precarious humanitarian situation.

According to local authorities, since the start of the conflict in October 2023, 119 young children have tragically lost their lives due to hunger-related causes.

The senators who signed the letter—Ruben Gallego of Arizona, Peter Welch of Vermont, Tim Kaine of Virginia, Mark Kelly of Arizona, and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts—expressed deep concern over the crisis facing infants in Gaza.

They emphasized the urgent need for unrestricted access to baby formula, calling on Rubio not only in his official capacity but also as a parent concerned with the welfare of children worldwide.

The senators' letter, dated August 31, 2025, demands a moral response and immediate action to protect the most vulnerable populations in Gaza.

They expect a reply from Rubio by September 8 and reiterate their belief that leveraging American influence can help safeguard those in need during this critical period.

This call for action follows a similar appeal from over 100 Democrats in the House of Representatives issued just last week, highlighting the bipartisan nature of support for aiding Gaza.

Public opinion in the United States also shows strong backing for sending aid to Gaza, with around 65% of registered voters supporting such measures, according to recent polls.

Furthermore, a significant majority—60%—of polled voters oppose the ongoing conflict in Gaza, and nearly 80% of registered Democrats believe Israel's actions can be characterized as genocide.
