Arab League Accuses Israel of Destabilizing Lebanon and Syria

Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit highlights military provocations and civilian casualties amid international inaction.
In a recent statement, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit accused Israel of attempting to destabilize both Lebanon and Syria through military provocations, asserting that these actions reflect a 'flagrant disregard for international legal norms.' Aboul Gheit emphasized that the lack of a global response has emboldened Israel to engage in what he described as reckless military actions.

He specifically condemned Israel's targeted assassinations in Lebanon, calling them an unacceptable violation of the ceasefire agreement signed with Lebanon late last year.

The statement highlighted ongoing conflicts in the region, noting that the violence perpetrated by Israel has led to significant civilian casualties.

According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, more than 50,000 individuals have been reported killed and over 113,200 wounded in Israeli operations against Palestinian territories, following a Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023. Furthermore, in the context of the conflict with the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement in Lebanon, war monitors have reported that at least 3,961 individuals have died and over 16,520 have been injured from October 8, 2023, to November 26, 2024.

Aboul Gheit criticized what he described as Israel's actions driven by narrow domestic politics that prioritize military escalation over civilian safety and regional stability.

He expressed concern that the Israeli military operations indicate a continued disregard for the agreements established in previous ceasefire talks.

Amid these tensions, Syria's government accused Israel of conducting a campaign of destabilization following a series of strikes on military targets, including a recent assault on an airport.

These attacks resulted in the deaths of at least 13 individuals in the southern province of Daraa.

The ongoing conflict dynamics in both Lebanon and Syria underscore the complex and volatile situation in the region, exacerbated by external military interventions.
