Escalating Violence in Gaza Claims Hundreds of Lives as Medical Facilities Face Collapse

Israeli airstrikes have resulted in over 500 fatalities in Gaza over three days, with hospitals in northern regions rendered non-operational.
Since the dawn of May 18, 2025, 144 Palestinians have been reported killed in Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, according to medical sources.

Among those casualties, 69 individuals were in Gaza City and its northern suburbs, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian situation.

This brings the total death toll to over 500 in Gaza over the past three days, as reported by the Director of Field Hospitals in the Gaza Ministry of Health.

Additionally, reports indicated that 15 Palestinians have been killed or are missing following an Israeli attack on a home in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood in northern Gaza.

In separate incidents, 20 more Palestinians lost their lives when Israeli aircraft targeted two homes in Jabalia, belonging to the Muqata and Nasr families.

The airstrikes also resulted in injuries to many, predominantly women and children.

Further attacks in northern Gaza have seen 7 fatalities from an airstrike on a family residence belonging to the Barawi family in Beit Lahiya.

Concurrently, Israeli artillery and aerial bombardment intensified in the Tal al-Zaatar area of the Jabalia refugee camp, leading to 5 additional deaths and numerous injuries due to strikes near Al-Awda Hospital.

Residents reported extensive destruction of civilian homes and severe damage to the hospital facilities.

In a related incident, 7 Palestinians were killed by an Israeli drone strike while they were preparing a water well in the As-Safina neighborhood.

The central Gaza Strip also witnessed ongoing bombardments, with 20 civilians reportedly killed in the relentless assaults.

In southern Gaza, renewed airstrikes targeted tents housing displaced persons in the Al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis, resulting in significant casualties among both the displaced populations and local residents.

The Gaza Civil Defense reported that entire families are being erased from civil registries due to the strikes, with over 200 individuals believed to be missing under the rubble, inaccessible to rescue teams.

Civil Defense officials remarked that many victims either die from bombardment or from starvation due to the ongoing blockade.

According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, the cumulative toll of Israeli actions in the Strip since October 7, 2023, has reached 53,339 fatalities and over 121,000 injuries.

The assault on healthcare facilities has escalated, with the Gaza Health Ministry declaring that all public hospitals in northern Gaza have ceased operations.

Key medical centers, including Beit Hanoun Hospital and Al-Kamal Hospital, have been rendered inoperative, continuing a pattern of attacks that have aimed at healthcare settings.

The Indonesian Hospital is reported to be under siege, with increased attacks since early Sunday after the closure of the European Hospital in Gaza days prior.

Health officials have reported a state of panic among patients and medical staff, hampering emergency healthcare delivery.

At least two patients were injured while trying to evacuate the Indonesian Hospital.

The continuous siege has severely restricted the admission of new patients amid escalating casualties.

The dire state of healthcare has been emphasized by various hospital directors, with senior medical officials highlighting that the capacity to provide basic medical services has been compromised due to targeted strikes, leading to widespread disease and famine in the region.

Emergency responders have declared that 75% of their vehicles in Gaza are non-operational due to a lack of fuel.

They warned that all operations could cease within 72 hours unless fuel supplies are restored, further jeopardizing the provision of essential emergency services.
