Escalation of Regional Tensions: Houthis Launch Missile at Israel Amid U.S. Airstrikes in Yemen

Escalation of Regional Tensions: Houthis Launch Missile at Israel Amid U.S. Airstrikes in Yemen

A ballistic missile fired by the Houthi movement targeting Israel and intense clashes with the U.S. Navy occur as airstrikes on Yemen increase.
On March 30, 2025, the Houthi movement launched a ballistic missile aimed at Israel, coinciding with a period of intensified U.S. airstrikes in Yemen.

The Israeli military reported that the missile was intercepted before entering Israeli airspace, leading to minor injuries among individuals who sought shelter following sirens in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

Yahya Saree, the military spokesman for the Houthis, claimed responsibility for the missile attack, stating it was directed at Ben Gurion Airport as a demonstration of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Saree indicated that ongoing U.S. military operations in Yemen would not deter the Houthis from their support of Gaza, vowing continued actions.

In a further development, Saree reported engagements between Houthi forces and U.S. naval vessels, including the USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier, across three separate incidents within a 24-hour period.

These confrontations reportedly involved drone and cruise missile utilization by the Houthis, which were described as retaliatory measures against perceived U.S. aggression.

The intensity of U.S. airstrikes in Yemen has markedly increased, with Houthi sources alleging 72 airstrikes since the previous Friday, including 16 night raids on key locations such as Saada and the capital, Sana'a. These operations have reportedly resulted in at least 57 fatalities and 128 injuries, predominantly involving women and children, according to the Houthi-run health ministry.

The latest U.S. air campaign appears broader in scope than prior operations, now targeting urban areas and high-ranking Houthi officials.

The United States has displayed intentions of a prolonged military engagement by repositioning naval assets and deploying strategic bombers to the region.

The Houthis have signaled their commitment to ongoing military actions until the blockade of Gaza is lifted, having begun their attacks on Israeli-affiliated maritime vessels in the Red Sea shortly after hostilities in Gaza intensified on March 18.
