Israel Challenges ICC Over Gaza War, USC Secret Service Admits Failure in Trump Assassination Attempt

Israel contests ICC jurisdiction over Netanyahu and Gallant arrests, while US Secret Service admits failures in Trump assassination attempt response at Pennsylvania rally.
Israel has formally challenged the International Criminal Court's jurisdiction and the request for arrest warrants against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for their conduct during the Gaza war. Meanwhile, the US Secret Service admitted to multiple failures in the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a July rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks injured two rally attendees and killed one.

Secret Service Acting Director Ronald Rowe Jr. highlighted deficiencies in planning and communication, leading to the resignation of Director Kimberly Cheatle and the suspension of several agents. In the political arena, Kamala Harris condemned Donald Trump and Republicans for their stance on abortion during her campaign rallies in Georgia and Wisconsin, bringing attention to the tragic death of Amber Nicole Thurman due to strict abortion laws.

As early voting began in Virginia, Minnesota, and South Dakota for the upcoming US election, Harris emphasized mobilizing voters while Trump, facing criminal charges, sparked controversy with remarks about Jewish American voters. Concurrently, Rep. Rashida Tlaib criticized a cartoon in National Review linking her to Hezbollah attacks, calling it racist along with various advocacy groups.

The cartoon, which portrayed her with an exploding pager, drew condemnation from Emgage Action and Democratic House members Cory Bush and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. On the international front, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the need for rapid decisions by allies with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to boost Ukraine’s defense strategy against Russia.

During their meeting in Kyiv, Zelensky emphasized domestic weapon production and plans to use a proposed multi-billion-dollar EU loan for air defense and energy needs, relying heavily on the support of US President Joe Biden. In another financial sector update, hedge fund manager Steven Eisman has been suspended by Neuberger Berman after making controversial remarks on social media about the devastation in Gaza.

Eisman apologized, claiming he misunderstood the context, but his firm deemed his actions "irresponsible and objectionable," reflecting deepening tensions and humanitarian crises amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza, which has resulted in the death of over 41,000 Palestinians.
