Israel's Proposed Security Zones in Gaza Revealed in Leaked Map

New plan outlines separation of civilians into designated areas amid ongoing conflict with Hamas.
Israel has reportedly developed a plan that would forcibly relocate Palestinians within the Gaza Strip into three designated security zones, as indicated by a leaked map obtained by diplomats and published in recent reports.

This move is contingent upon the failure to establish a ceasefire with Hamas in the near future.

The leaked map illustrates four Israeli military zones strategically positioned in the northern, central, and southern regions of Gaza, interspersed with three civilian areas.

Under the proposed framework, the movement of civilians between these areas would be strictly regulated, with permission required for travel, while all goods entering or exiting would face mandatory security screenings.

Humanitarian organizations have expressed serious concerns regarding the potential impact of these restrictions, claiming they would result in the displacement of Palestinians from their properties and inhibit their ability to navigate freely throughout the enclave.

An Israeli military spokesperson has not confirmed nor denied the existence of the plan, referred to as 'Stage three: the complete takeover of Gaza.' The proposed strategy includes the construction of a military corridor north of Khan Younis, modeled after the existing Netzarim Corridor located south of Gaza City.

Reports indicate that construction activities, necessitating the removal of land in the corridor area, will begin shortly.

Further plans involve the expansion of the buffer zone separating Israel from Gaza, as depicted in the leaked map, which shows an expansive perimeter encompassing the entire enclave.

The implementation of the new military zones in central Gaza, along with the enlarged buffer zone, is expected to take a minimum of three weeks.

This initiative forms part of a broader and ongoing strategy by Israel regarding Gaza's governance and security.

Additionally, the leaked map suggests the establishment of multiple humanitarian distribution centers within the civilian zones, indicating a shift in how humanitarian aid is delivered.

This new approach has garnered widespread criticism as it aims to circumvent traditional channels, including the United Nations and established charitable organizations, by leveraging private entities for aid distribution.

Since early March, Israel has imposed a comprehensive blockade on humanitarian goods entering Gaza, exacerbating the existing humanitarian crisis in the region.
