Israeli Airstrike Injures Two Near Lebanese Army Post

An Israeli drone strike in Southern Lebanon on Sunday resulted in two injuries, including a military personnel, amidst ongoing tensions in the region.
An Israeli airstrike on Sunday targeted a vehicle near a Lebanese Army checkpoint in the vicinity of Beit Yahoun, resulting in the injury of two individuals, one of whom is a soldier, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.

The ministry stated that an Israeli drone attacked a vehicle on the road to Beit Yahoun in the Bent Jbeil district, leading to injuries.

The Lebanese Army confirmed that one soldier sustained moderate injuries due to the strike on a Rapid vehicle at the Beit Yahoun-Bent Jbeil checkpoint, located approximately eight kilometers from the Israeli border.

The Israeli military has not commented on this specific airstrike.

However, reports indicate that Israel conducted a series of airstrikes in Southern Lebanon last week, resulting in the deaths of four individuals, as stated by the Lebanese Health Ministry.

The Israeli military claimed that these earlier strikes targeted elements of Hezbollah.

A ceasefire agreement, brokered by American and French mediators, has been in effect since November 27. The agreement called for the withdrawal of Hezbollah fighters from areas south of the Litani River, located around 30 kilometers from the border, and the dismantling of their military infrastructure in exchange for an enhanced presence of the Lebanese Army and UNIFIL forces near the Israeli border.

Despite the ceasefire agreement, Israeli forces have maintained their presence in five strategic heights that allow them to monitor extensive areas on both sides of the border.

Israeli airstrikes have continued, particularly in the south, prompting Lebanon to call on the international community to exert pressure on Israel to cease these attacks and withdraw its forces.

Recently, Lebanese authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to consolidating weaponry under state control, amid rising American pressure to disarm Hezbollah following significant military and leadership losses the group sustained during its conflict with Israel.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated in late April that the army now controls over 85 percent of the south, which it has 'cleared' as part of its duties under the ceasefire agreement.
