Israeli Army Claims Discovery of Hamas Leader's Body in Khan Younis

The Israeli military reports finding multiple bodies of Hamas members, including that of Mohamed Sinwar, believed to have been killed in a May airstrike.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that their troops, operating near the European Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, discovered several bodies of Hamas members killed during an airstrike on May 13. According to reports, one of the bodies found may belong to Mohamed Sinwar, a prominent leader in Hamas, who was reportedly killed in the same air raid.

The IDF stated that their forces are conducting operations within Hamas tunnels near the European Hospital.

The military explained that they located an underground route that was targeted three weeks earlier, where Sinwar and others were believed to be present.

As noted by the IDF, unidentified bodies were found in the area.

Additionally, the IDF indicated that they uncovered evidence suggesting Hamas had used the hospital as a cover for its operations.

The military released footage describing an alleged infrastructure located beneath the European Hospital in Khan Younis.

This infrastructure reportedly served as a command and control center from which senior Hamas leaders directed combat operations.

Aviar Kedar, spokesperson for the IDF, communicated via social media platform X that during a focused operation led by the intelligence division and the 36th Brigade, Israeli forces and the Shin Bet security agency discovered this infrastructure, retrieving numerous documents including command center operations, combat equipment, and additional intelligence paperwork.

Last week, the Israeli military had denied that its forces operated within the complex of the European Hospital.

They previously announced the death of Mohamed Sinwar, the head of Hamas's military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, during the airstrike on Khan Younis on May 13, in a joint operation involving the military and Shin Bet.

Kedar mentioned that Israeli aircraft conducted airstrikes on Khan Younis that resulted in the elimination of Sinwar, alongside other Hamas leaders, such as Mohamed Shabana and Mahdi Kawar, during their presence in an underground command and control complex below the European Hospital.

The IDF provided footage from the operation that targeted the infrastructure beneath the hospital, indicating that this was where Sinwar was killed.

The military described the targeted tunnel as multi-dimensional, emphasizing the use of advanced technologies for the strike.

The assault saw fighter jets releasing over 50 bombs in a span of 30 seconds, and the IDF noted that the hospital’s operational functions were not impacted by the airstrike.
